“The Cline Family Foundation Scholarship Award has enabled me to attend the school of my dreams. Without it, it would be a financial impossibility.”
“My educational goals are to make the most of every educational offering provided to me with special emphasis on accounting and economics.“
“This scholarship has allowed me the opportunity to broaden my scholastic progress”
“The Cline Foundation scholarship has helped numerous students at Wyoming East have the ability to attend college who otherwise may not have been able to.”
“The financial need of our seniors for college is significant. The majority of our seniors (and underclassmen alike) are low income. In our geographical area, the poverty level is high. Scholarships like the Cline Foundation give students the opportunity to rise above their circumstances.”
On a more personal level, a scholarship of this financial magnitude has reinforced students’ self-confidence by demonstrating to them that they are a valuable commodity.
Overall, the financial needs of my senior student population are bleak. Many talented students in this area come from socioeconomic backgrounds in which they cannot afford the best education. Furthermore, many parents of children in the Westside High School district are either unemployed or disabled blue collar workers. For the most part, they worked in the coal industry. Employment opportunities and access to well-paying, quality jobs are, in my opinion, critical factors in achieving a prosperous economy. Unfortunately, the aforementioned attributes are not present in the Wyoming County Westside High School district. As a result, in my occupation as a counselor, I see many Southern West Virginia families struggling to survive under adverse economic conditions This scholarship has offered an opportunity for truly talented minds to blossom rather than to just slip through the cracks.
Wasted talent isn’t just something that hurts individuals–it hurts the community when people are not living up to their potential. The Cline Family Foundation with their scholarship has, in part, fostered a strong relationship with our talent of tomorrow.
